Otis | unused art

Often some of my ideas and sketches for a book are cut for pacing and content issues. The ‘pacing’ of a book simply means how the book moves along (both story and art) as it is being read. Sometimes it is hard to cut a sketch because I might be attached to it and think that it would make a fun piece of art. But the ultimate goal is to create the best book possible and use images that will most effectively tell the story and strike the right mood in the right moment in the story. Occasionally, this means putting my personal artistic whims aside and making choices that serve the book as a whole.
